Embracing her Celtic Roots, Emily Jean Flack Releases the New Sound Of Electro-Folk with EP ‘Throwing Shapes’

Through bridging the traditional sounds of her homeland in Ontario to those of her current home in Limerick, the new EP ‘Throwing Shapes‘ from Emily Jean Flack is perhaps her most accomplished work to date – showcasing her gorgeously pure vocals and the Celtic music she was raised with, whilst injecting cool electronic textures to create a genre-spanning mix that defies expectations and delivers on every level.  Produced by Belfast native Peter Wallace, and mixed by three-time Grammy Award winner David Bottrill, ‘Throwing Shapes’ also features guest performances by two Irish folk stars, whistle and flute player Brian Finnegan from the band Flook and guitarist Marty Barry.

“Although I come from a traditional instrumental folk background, I’ve always listened to so many other styles of music. And my own music has always been more personal, more modern and more contemporary. Being in Ireland is wonderful in the sense that it’s so culturally rich, but there is a ferocity and sense of independence within the music. It’s not cute or quaint. It’s quite raw and organic. Ireland has offered me an environment to openly make the music that moves me”

Harnessing an impeccable musical lineage as the daughter of Denise Flack – a member of the groundbreaking Celtic-pop band Leahy, Emily Jean Flack grew up immersed in traditional Irish music and dance. Emily cites her mother as her main influence and inspiration, with her family experiences being what has given her both an undeniable stage presence and an aptitude for performance. Her first public rendition was at an Irish Ceilidh near Peterborough, Ontario where she sang “Katie” by Mary Black, accompanied by her aunt on piano. Despite this being a small performance, this clearly had a profound effect of her maturing musically at an early age, and she had been quoted as saying that this moment felt in some small way that she was following in her mother’s footsteps. Her love of ceilidhs and festivals meant that her eventually uprooting to Ireland was a transition was one that was both effortless and empowering.

Through honing her craft while studying for a Masters in Traditional Music at the University of Limerick, vocalist, songwriter, musician and dancer Emily has spent her life surrounded by music and musicians, but has always harnessed a keenness to express her influences in a way which was entirely her own. Despite the dynamic and joyous feel to her music, there is an inherent degree of heartbreak behind the veil, which emotionally, allows the tracks to feel more wholesome and real. With the spirit of the Emerald Isle permeating her material, Emily also incorporates jazz, pop and Americana influences to create a sound that she describes as progressive folk. Lyrically, the concept of love is explored in all its various forms, with all of her songs coming from a degree of personal experience – Love is hard, love is beautiful, love is worth the fight.

Youth sensation Shannon K returns with best single yet – ‘Just Another Boy’

IMG_9874

Daughter of award winning Bollywood vocalist finds her ideal sound with new single, out March 30th

With a string of singles already under her belt, Shannon K is becoming something of a prolific artist when it comes to new releases. With three songs already unleashed in the past year, her fourth demonstrates a young pop artist who has really started to find her style.
Her best song yet, ‘Just Another Boy’ is a straight-forward, immediately accessible pop hit in the contemporary ‘girl power’ mould of Taylor Swift. Boasting genuine pop impact in the distorted vocals and the stilted but relentless rhythms, the track truly comes alive on the speedily delivered chorus.
But, just when you think you’ve got the track figured out, it takes a left turn in the shape of an airy, languid middle eight, which kicks back in once more with that superb chorus. The gradual build from there to the multi-layered ending is brilliantly produced and it’s a track to be proud of with its honest, confident and powerful lyrics:
Hear the track for yourself: https://soundcloud.com/galaxy-of-stars/just-another-boy
Following on from anti-drugs single ‘Just Say No’ and festive track ‘Christmas Song’, this track marks a watershed move from Shannon K, moving on from the themed ideals of the previous releases and into serious pop territory.
No doubt it makes her father, Kumar Sanu, very proud – and he knows what it takes to make it in the music industry. A glittering career as a vocalist in Bollywood has seen him win a total of 69 awards including 64 in his native India (from Filmfare, Zee Cine, Kishore Kumarand more) plus 5 internationally (from Sunrise Radio-London, West Indian Academy, Grammy-West Indies, Bollywood Music-U.S.A. and Radio Lotus-South Africa).
With that kind of support behind her, and quality singles like ‘Just Another Boy’ now in the works, it won’t be long before Shannon K is up for her own awards.

‘Apple Of My Eye’ are one of the most exciting acts around at the moment and they have just  announced the release of new album ‘Seven Tides’, due out 1st December.
The London lads are originally from the historic maritime city of Bristol and their songs draw inspiration from both cities and from the sea, a theme that runs throughout their second album. Their engaging storytelling style and four part harmonies explore tales of love, loss, adventure and ruin.
You may spotted the guys at a festival this summer as they played the, Tall Ships Festival Greenwich, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness and headlining Exile festival in Sheffield.
The band describe their music as “brand new old songs” and collectively generate all their own material drawing on personal experiences and carefully arranging the music on the guitar, bouzouki, violin, double bass, mandolin and harmonica.
Catch the guys live in action here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsyM68eQux4
The bands musical talent is most certainly something to boast about, check their credentials…
Kit Massey (Violin) and Phil Cornwell (Bass) are both full time professional musicians. Cornwell is the musical director of West End musical “The Scotsboro Boys’’ and Massey  was formally a violinist with the Santiago Philamonia in Chile and has worked as a session musician with artists such as Emile Sande, Dizzie Rascal, Muse and Jamie Cullum. Arran Glass (Vocals and Guitar) and Alex Scott (Mandolin) are both professional Actor-Musicians and Puppeteers who perform and compose the music for a variety of theatre and television. Chris (Bouzouki), Dan (Harmonica) and Ellie Rusbridge (Vocals) are all siblings and come from a rich folk music heritage as their parents met in a folk club and still perform in their own folk band Thornbridge.

Adam Protz Releases Intangible EP – ‘Movements’

IMG_0409

Hailing from St Albans after a period of studying in Sheffield, Adam Protz has had several years to perfect his craft of composing. Using delicate piano melodies and intricate instrumentals, Adam Protz has created his beautiful EP ‘Movements’, consisting of four alluring and exquisite tracks. In the past, Adam has written music for films, animated shorts, a dance show, an educational DVD and even a brewery documentary!
Watch his latest video for ‘Movements’ here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS41YT2sxZ8
Protz has been writing music since the tender age of fifteen and began his journey into music writing heavy rock songs with soft orchestral bridge sections as a contrast, this developed into a desire to write for Hollywood movies. However, after listening to minimalistic meditative piano music, written by the likes of Ludovico Einaudi, Adam soon discovered that he was much more suited to creating emotive music in which he could incorporate his own personality and spirituality.
The lack of lyrics in the music leaves it up to the listener to interpret the piece as they wish. It provokes an emotional reaction and is also incredibly relaxing. The ‘Movements’ EP is proof that lyrics aren’t a necessity to provoke powerful sentimental thoughts
Protz aims to inspire relaxation and offers the perfect setting for escaping to through his music. A firm believer that the world is over-obsessed with Smart-phones and social networks, Protz encourages listeners, from all walks of life, to return to the roots and escape with him into his musical world of beautiful, elegant minimalism.
‘Movements’ is due for release on the 30th November.

Debut Album Release – Hard Copies pre-sold #FTMusicBook. 29th July 2014

SONY DSC
Band Overview
The Franks are Jon, Kaleb and Tane. A Gritty Pop Soul Trio fresh out of London who released their debut single, Lies on 12th March 2012.
The Franks have been broadcast by Alex Lester of Radio 2 on 13th March 2012 and have received Regional airplay at Lionheart Radio FM Newcastle, Saint Fm in Essex and Alan Robson’s Night Owl’s Programme on Metro Radio to date.
The Franks have had a great deal of online activity. Links and articles will be pasted below along with Comment, Quotes from National and Regional Producers and Programmers as below*
The Franks BACKGROUND
Jon, Kaleb and Tane had been performing individually for several years as musicians. Jon played the piano, Kaleb the guitar and Tane the Drums. Their union was a little unexpected as they were all from very different parts of the globe. Jon was from Essex, Kaleb was from Newcastle and Tane from New Zealand. However, their passion for Gospel, Soul and Motown music brought them together.
In 2009, The Franks met through a Gospel Choir performance in London. They then went on to jam together and later that year, were discovered by a music manager at a rehearsal studio in Kings Cross.
Kaleb, Jon and Tane found that when they just sang together they were creating a big Soul sound. They each went on to front a track with the other two singers echoing sections, splitting the songs into three part harmonies.
They developed their contemporary, vibrant, commercial music, keeping the influence of 60s soul. Their sounds are reminiscent of The Four Seasons, The Four Tops along with the Pop Soul grooves of Duffy and Winehouse.
“Lies” is a hard-hitting pop soul track. It’s catchy and fronted by Kaleb who has the gritty soul voice. The echoes are harmonised by Jon and Tane. The song reveals the anger Kaleb is facing towards his ex-girlfriend. It tells the story of how she has had a hold over him and how the past relationship wasn’t real. It also reveals the emotion and passion he still feels for her.
In 2014 a second single and album ‘Love Drunk Soul’ will be released via #FTMusicBook. The band have already built a strong live fan base playing regular gigs at venues including, Ronnie Scotts, Floriditas, Café De Paris and Madame JoJos.
They are thrilled to be releasing their tracks via Freethemusicbook.com and will keep you posted via ‘The Book Review’ on their page of forthcoming news on the bands progress.
Quotes to date:
The Franks “LIES” – NATIONAL AND REGIONAL RADIO COMMENTS : Alex Lester – RADIO 2- Lies has received airplay.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01d5qg4
MALCOLM PRINCE, Executive Producer – Graham Norton & Paul O’Grady Radio 2 “Lies is a good upbeat track. I have no problems with the production. It will be up for consideration on our playlist.”
Mark Plant, Producer DRIVETIME Radio 2 – “The track is a really strong song. I can very easily hear the song on the Radio 2 playlist.”
RADIO 2 – Broadcast assistant Joe Haddow – ‘I like the feel of this track…it’s fresh and soulful and has a really good rhythm. The chorus is quite instant and becomes catchy after a couple of listens. The lead vocal is really interesting – I think it works though, not too gruff, just the right side. It compliments the brass really well…and the harmonies at the end soften the blow too. It stands out from other singers at the moment and harks back to some of James Brown’s earlier efforts. I can see Radio 2 playing this – certainly spot plays, but perhaps a cheeky c-list too. I think it would work well on certain shows across the board’
Maxximum FM – “I’m going to fit this in to one of our shows”
Music Scheduler/Playlist Manager Saint FM – “’Lies’ has been aired on two Saint FM shows, Midnight Café & Local Talent. It will go out again on the Local Talent show on Monday between 7-9pm. We think it’s a fabulous record.”
BBC Radio Wales – “Good track. I’ll take it in to the next Playlist meeting.” – Music Scheduler/Playlist Manager
Smooth Radio – “ I would consider putting them on as the opening act on one of our ‘Love Music Live’ shows.” – Head Of Presentation, Smooth Radio Network
Metro Radio – “I have played this, more plays to come.” – Alan Robson, Night Owls Show
Smooth Radio Network – “Love the track, very Northern Soul-esque. Smooth is definitely a station that can play this band.” – Head Of Presentation, Smooth Radio Network
Live Session with Robert Elms, BBC Radio London 94.9 – March 28th 2012
Robert Elms and his producer Graham love the track “Lies” and have played it numerous times on BBC London and gave The Franks the opportunity to sing live and have an interview… Click on the link and go to 2:33.40

Stars is the new single from Jessie Lowes and we love it!

1907653_747267308657180_1430118672708597097_n
This track evokes a great deal of emotion and feeling. The story of the song is about her struggle to perform as an artiust without the help of her mother to guide her and support her. Jessie Lowes was very close to her late mother, so this is a really brave and saddening song to listen to.
Below is the press Release, with more information about the track and her upcoming album:
Available from September 22nd, ‘Stars’ is the new single from acoustic singer-songwriter Jessie Lowes. Based in Northumberland and specialising in a delicate mix of clear vocal and guitar picking, Lowes is a songwriter not afraid to wear her heart on her sleeve when it comes to her music. The single ‘Stars’ was written for her mother who passed away in 2008 from Cancer, and the song is a tribute to their close relationship:
It’s hard to believe that a song this delicate is the work of an ex-cage fighter and club level rugby player – the light touch and subtleties of her music covering a tougher background than most, a childhood that music played a huge part in.
It comes as little surprise to learn that Jessie grew up around music, often using it as an escape. Her Uncle Tony Raine was a famous jazz pianist working with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Julian Slade, Judy Garland and Diana Ross, and had his own TV show in the 60s called MusicBox. And it is from this solid pedigree that Lowes’ musical pedigree was borne.
And now, with further singles and an album due before the end of this year, Jessie Lowes is set to take her love affair with music to the next level.
‘Stars’ will be available from September 22nd.

‘The Way I Feel Pt. 2’ EP from Soulost

SouLost_02
Electronic rock group set for first four piece EP on September 1st
Having released last February’s ‘The Way I Feel Pt. 1’ EP as an electronic-rock three piece, SouLost return with part two this Autumn with an added bassist and a brand new sound.
‘The Way I Feel Pt. 2’ marks an evolution of sound from the London based group, with new bassist Lux joining Ceira (vocals), Stef (guitar/songwriter) and Law (drums) to create a heavier, more expansive sound that veers closer to melodic speed rock than the songs on its predecessor.
For a taste, check out this sneak peak – EP track ‘Without Me’:
https://soundcloud.com/soulostofficial/without-me/s-jnDQT
Boasting a brilliant female vocal and a huge, layered sound, the track indicates a genuine step forward for the band in terms of sound, and should see them build on support already garnered for their first EP.
The lead track from ‘The Way I Feel Pt. 1’ was titled ‘Save Me’, and saw SouLost featured on the Best of British Unsigned playlist, leading to airplay in 16 countries over 88 radio stations. It was also featured on Amazing Radio’s ‘Amazing Rock Show’ playlist upon release, and SouLost will be hoping their new direction provokes similarly positive feedback.
Not bad at all for an EP written by Stef during a 6 hour wait to be rescued with a broken down car.
‘The Way I Feel Pt. 2’ is available from September 1st

Lateefah’s debut single “Here I am” held the number one spot for three weeks on the Reverbnation Christian chart for St. Lucia and also for a period of one week was number one on all genres chart. Listen to ‘This is Who I Am’ here: https://soundcloud.com/lateefahsings/this-is-who-i-am
London Born musician, Lateefah is a neo soul artist who after returning to the UK from her parent’s native country of St Lucia, is now working on further developing her gift for making music. Her new single releasing this year, will hope to demonstrate the talent and efforts of this young neo soul artist.
The cool Caribbean Artist started out singing in church at a young age, and gathers a lot of the inspiration for her work, from her own personal diaries from her childhood. Adapting these written records of her past, Lateefah has been able to create moving and soulful songs that entertain and educate her listeners about her colorful past.
Lateefah developed her passion for singing from early on as 3 years of age! Her earliest memory of being driven by the art, was trying to hit the right notes in the song “The Lord is my Shepherd”. Rehearsing relentlessly, until she hit it with pitch perfect precision. After that success and a great deal of extra practice, the music industry became a second home for the young superstar. The music blood has been in Lateefah’s family since her father founded the 70’s Reggae band, Cygnus.

Rolly’s Syndicate: Little Mullu: Buy the Album on iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/little-mullu/id881020823
Rollys Syndicate are the Warwickshire based band, that are mixing contemporary blues and soul. They are now set to release a new album for the summer. Working together, Milli aids Roland with moving lyrics, whilst Ro’ brings the guitar backing.
Their music has that open air quality you only reall see in the Jazz genre. With great guitar playing and memorable lyrics, the band congregates together; to make a thoroughly enjoyable collection of moving and expressive tracks.
After a long period of co-operation with the band, Milli could no longer commit to the long term vision of the group. However, in honour of the bands history together, the Roland Syndicate decided to dedicate their debut album to Milli and her lyrical talents.
Fortunately, she happily agreed to collaborate on a short term basis. It’s for this reason that most of the lyrics in the album draw their influence from both the bands everyday life and Milli’s personal journey to this point.
The band has now picked a new vocalist from a selection of more than 30 applicants. Her name is Natalie Brown and the band tells us that she is as good as Milli!
Her background includes being the lead vocalist in the original band, StoneSoulUK from February 2006 to October 2013 (writing and performing mainly original material, as well as cover material). Natalie has also lent her vocal talents to the cover band ‘the Bottle’, whilst studying at university (1997-2000). Ontop of all this she has performed at major west midland venues such as The Yardbird, Victoria Square and The Malthouse.
Roland Syndicate Little Mulllu
Natalie Brown’s influences include Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys and Michael Jackson.
Hungarian born, Roland produced the album as part of achieving a degree at Staffordshire University. He has showcased his talents at many different live gigs such as: The Public (West Bromwich), Hare & Hounds (Birmingham), Bulls Head (Birmingham), Mixing Bowl Theatre (Birmingham). Roland said that he has played many live gigs but for him the biggest event was at the Sziget Festival.
On-top of these live shows, the group has also been featured on the ‘BBC Introducing’ series, played on Radio Warwickshire, Airplay & The Musical Journey show (live), Tweets & web mentions (Clay Lowe/SoulCuzer radio presenter), Radio Plus – Airplay & Live Room Session.
Through the years, Milli and Roland have developed a good understanding of the musical influences they wanted to follow, and thus developed a winning musical chemistry. Roland’s professionalism and creativity seemed to work well with Milli adding her soulful tones, as she is not only a talented vocalist, but also an amazing songwriter with a history in Drama and Literature.
Benny (drummer) & Luke (bass player) were both attracted to the the unique mix of Soul, contemporary Blues and a touch of jazzy elements, they both relate to in their own personal musical backgrounds.
Luke, the bass player in the band was born in Leamington Spa in 1992, picking up his first guitar at the age of 11. It was after watching the video of November Rain that Luke’s hobby turned into a lifelong passion. He has played from many names such as the African Kora players to Art rock bands and anyone else that would give him his next step into the starlight. His talent developed quickly due to dedication and his love to the art.
Benny, the band’s drummer, plays several styles including jazz, rock, blues and funk. He played in jazz trios, big bands, rock and punk bands through the years. He has recently played in the Boogie snakes and the Holly Perkins Bands. Making appearances on many different jam sessions around Oxfordshire. Bennys drum kit is a vintage Yamaha kit from 1973, Yamaha Vintage Series snare, Zildjian cymbals with Evans heads. The drummer says that his influencers are Dennis Chambers, Ed Thigpen and Zsolt Mike.
The Unique combination of styles and influences Rolly’s Syndicate produce demonstrates the colourful background of the group members, Roland’s Passion for blues from a Hungarian Background, Beni’s Amazing talent and vast experience playing with various bands and Luke’s alternative veins and passion for Jazz & World Music.
