Journey from the underground – Andi McErnest first star to shine from new label: The Uprise

There’s no escaping the excitement and anticipation for what is to become the first release from The Uprise – a new record label enterprise founded by NFL superstar and BBC Sport pundit Osi Umenyiora. Here we can witness an initial glimpse at the various twists and turns that have given rise to their premier starlet Andi McErnest and his lead track – ‘Baby Ur Cool’.

Andi McEarnest

The story here began with humble roots as Andi (known as A.M) found creative means of expression through poetry after the tragic loss of his father around the turn of the millennium. It wasn’t long before his passion took a musical turn as he worked with producers for a number of months to make a sequence of initial demos as the foundations of his career took form.

After having moved back to his native Nigeria, and then back to the UK, A.M continued his venture into music and, under the name Authentiq, signed with underground record label ‘Titans Entertinment’. Alongside this, Andi also managed a degree of success as a budding entrepreneur, launching his own fitness company ‘Oneinamillionbillion’ in London, and later partnering his brother at ‘The McErnest Company’ based in Lagos, Nigeria where he became their first music artist in 2015.

The Uprise label has embarked on its own mantra, which looks to combine Brazilian-inspired street sound with UK grime to fulfil their vision of a Motown-style brand that draws upon the talent of their own roster of in-house writers and producers.  This draws very much upon an uplifting idea that tries to connect people of all cultures and backgrounds with music as a means of universal understanding.

On this basis, collaboration between this particular label and artist needs no further explanation.

A.M draws on inspiration from a lengthy roster of 90’s and contemporary RnB and hip hop including Sean Combs, Pharrell Williams and Fela Kuti. Continuing in the vein of catchy electro RnB the track itself features a chilled, seductive half beat – easily accessible and looks set to saturate the sound waves in clubs across the UK very soon.

Ben Katzman’s DeGreaser Welcome Back Guilt-Free Shredding!

Building up from the rawest foundations, the element which holds the truest translation to musical competency is fire. Fire is synonymous with belief, and perhaps the most identifiable embodiment of belief is the guitar. Founder of Boston’s BUFU record label and sole fixed member of DeGreaser, Ben Katzman has been looking to bring the glory of feel-good rock back to the masses.

Self personification is paramount to success, and at the heart of the philosophy he wants to portray. So what does that entail? For one, individuality is the most valuable commodity that a musician can possess. Stemming from a mantra at the forefront of success is to remember that music is about having a good time above all else, and that you shouldn’t be afraid to be yourself.

From the humble beginnings of being a 9 year old full of anger, problems mounting due to struggling with an inability to express one-self, Ben found an outlet for his frustration through writing music. Now returning for his second full-length solo project -“Quarter Life Crisis”, there is no self-evident baggage of turbulent meaning weighing down what is in essence a straight up rock record.

Indeed, his label seemed to begin from similar territory. Ben had enrolled in Boston’s Berklee College of Music, but had remained unable to relate to the lessons being taught as a means to flourish musically. Starting out with making tapes out of his dorm room, BUFU has worked its way up to being an internationally distributed source, with material sitting in stores all over the world. Now, a number of albums have received note from independent to major press outlets such as Sub Pop and Warner Brothers.

Above all else, Ben respects any band whose success wasn’t handed to them. DeGreaser is a concept that is proud to be what it is. Having felt that rock has become a genre that now takes itself too seriously – losing that sense of ridiculousness from its forefathers, what’s on offer is diverse and plentiful, and above all seemingly a very honest interpretation of the man himself.

Music Prodigy starts up own record label with MusicRaiser

‘Mini Mozart’ to become youngest record label boss in history with Music Raiser: The World’s first crowd funded record label!

*** FOR EXCLUSIVE SALE *** BYLINE: TOPSTAR CONTACT: Jon Bushell - 07805 471922

Prodigious 10 year old pianist Curtis Elton ATCL (1st year of a university degree) and brand new crowd funding website Music Raiser are teaming up this month, aiming to make Elton the youngest record label boss in history.

Already a huge success in the EU, MusicRaiser is a unique site designed to support musicians as the world’s first crowd funded record label. Launching in the UK, one of the first projects on their agenda will see ‘Mini Mozart’ Curtis Elton pledge to set up a record label to promote talented child musicians.
Curtis got the idea having been unceremoniously turned away from this year’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ in spite of getting four ‘yes’ votes and rave reviews from the judges. The change of fortunes was especially surprising as producers had sought out the talented pianist to try again after booting him out at the same stage in 2011. Having been given assurances that the same would not happen this time, Elton was disappointed to learn that he would once again not make it to the live semi-finals.
But rather than resting on his laurels, Curtis is using the disappointment to come back fighting and make his own way in the music industry – as well as giving other talented youngsters the chance to do the same with the help of MusicRaiser.
With over €1 million raised in its first year on the EU mainland, MusicRaiser has an existing community of 40,000 fundraisers looking for the best new music projects in the industry. UK artists will be able to call on this community for the first time – including Curtis Elton, the ‘Mini Mozart’ looking to blaze trails as the youngest label boss ever.
