Raw Soul Express’ Thought-Provoking New Single ‘Fate of the World’

2021 has seen the return of the soul and funk force of nature that is Raw Soul Express. In watching the new video for their single ‘Fate of the World’, it’s easy to forget that the song itself was written some 25 years prior. Long-time bassist and vocalist, Albie Manno explains that when he was planning on making the video in 2019, he had no idea what the images would be. Manno claims that this new take on a classic reaffirms the band’s long held belief that their music should reflect the times.

‘Fate of the World’ isn’t afraid to deal with the big issues, with lyrics and themes touching on the Black Lives Matter movement as well as the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, global warming and the economy. However, it is not often that artists deal with such raw and current issues without appearing preachy. ‘Fate of the World’ prefers not to offer an opinion; instead it simply poses the question: ‘Is this the fate of the world?’

Rick Washington’s lead vocals shine through on this killer track with its ominous bass line and relentless drums from Harold Seay. The extraordinary musicianship of every member is obvious and the band’s years of experience playing together is evident. In a feat almost unheard of in the music industry, the band have retained the original line-up and remain as tight and talented as ever.

Raw Soul Express’ new single is raw, current and thought-provoking. If, like the band, you’re socially minded and you have a deep concern for the state of the world today, then watch the video above and decide for yourself if this really is the Fate of the World.

Jon Scott releases new EP ‘Freedom – A New Jerusalem’ in the face of extreme prejudice and hate

London-based singer and multi-instrumentalist, Jon Scott, has released a new EP named ‘Freedom – A New Jerusalem’, which iconises the times we live in when the world looks to come together in the face of racial prejudice and social injustice.

The new EP encapsulates Jon Scott’s observations of the world, including the battles we have had to face, not only our global pandemic but also in the social issues highlighted by the Black Lives Matter movement. ‘Freedom – A New Jerusalem’ is an anthem for our ongoing battles and a step in the right direction to achieving a more united world.

Out of all the craziness, hatred, spite, and nastiness, the majority of folk all around the world marched together to stand up for what is blatantly right. It’s a seminal moment, era-defining, and world awakening, particularly given the fact that this all occurred in lockdown.

In particular, I hope that the video will be a picture chronicle for the world of this amazing uplifting of spirit particularly for the future generations, as a benchmark of what we should be about as all god’s children or if one prefers, children of one creation and of the universe”.

Jon Scott

With a similar sound to the likes of Marvin Gaye and Fela Kuti, Jon Scott is combining elements of soul, jazz, and Afro-pop within his songwriting whilst still balancing his day job as a top lawyer at his own law firm.

You can tell musical talent runs in the family as megastar, Seal, is Jon Scott’s first cousin. Jon does his own vocals, guitar, and percussion whilst other instrumentation and co-production duties are shared with Gordon Hulbert.
