Canadian alternative pop duo, Elsiane are releasing their experimental masterpiece, Death of the Artist on 21st April, but the new record is anything but.
If anything, this record from the talented pair is a ‘rebirth’ as opposed to a death, their 3rd album since Elsiane’s inception in 2000. Despite their varying musical backgrounds, Elsieanne Caplette and Stephane Sotto have come together to form a vehicle for their alternative tendencies and Death of the Artist is arguably their best work to date.
You might assume that any act’s dream is to sign for a major label, but having dealt with one and realising that many simply try to mold artists into something that ‘sells’, Elsiane threw in the towel, deciding to release their record independently instead.
The band’s 2007 debut album revealed them as one of the hottest acts in Canada, whilst their sophomore release Mechanics of Emotion confirmed this. However, difficult times lay ahead for the pair, who struggled with the music lifestyle, separating as a couple, and almost as artists. Fortunately for us alt-pop lovers, Elsieanne and Stephane reunited to give us Death of the Artist.
With a sound akin to Massive Attack combined with Kate Bush, Elsiane are creating some music that you should definitely check out.
LP to be released on the same day as lead single, ‘That Ain’t Love’ – October 1st
A South Wales based boy band with a taste for energetically infectious melodies, Eric Unseen are a three piece with a growing reputation in the UK indie scene.
Having supported and gigged with a host of high profile names including Bastille, We are Scientists, The Alarm, The Stiff Little Fingers, Cast, Ocean Colour Scene, Skindred, Paramore, Goldie Lookin Chain, The Subways, and The Automatic, the band are now ramping up for further exposure with new album ‘Brought Up the Right Way’.
With a sound that comes across like a contemporary version of The Smiths with an indie twist, Eric Unseen are unlike any other band on the circuit at the moment, and aim to drive their point home with this album’s lead single – ‘That Ain’t Love’
The band are no strangers to the stage and have really turned heads with the quality of their live shows. In addition to the impressive list of gigs above, they also reached the final of national competition ‘Live and Unsigned’, fighting through 10,000 acts to play in the showcase event at London’s O2 arena in front of 3 thousand people.
Their success though has not gone to their heads, and they happily joke about the gig they played the next day – a small pub with seven people in it who were there to watch the football.
Fans include producers Greg Haver (The Manic Street Preachers, Cataonia, Super Furry Animals), Richard Jackson (Duffy, The Automatic) and Slade front man Noddy Holder, all impressed by Eric Unseen’s versatile and consistently high quality songwriting.
And it all comes from an outlook of simplicity and the feel of a band simply having fun, with lyrics inspired by a relatable life in ‘The Valleys’ of Wales painting a very different picture from the trashy MTV attempt at reality television.
The album and single will be available from October 1st and is being funded by new crowd funding site Free The Music Book: http://freethemusicbook.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=61

Single written after chance meeting with pop singer Cheryl Cole in a London night club
Hailing from East London and the creator of gritty dance pop tracks, Daniel David is no stranger to music industry success. He was part of an urban music group with none other than Labrinth, Daniel has played huge stages, such as the Radio 1 Big Weekender in front of 70,000 people, as well as winning an Urban Music Award for Best Video and being nominated for a MOBO – losing out only to JLS.
Now working on a solo career, his new single ‘Me an U’ is a bass heavy, infectious tune inspired by a chance meeting with Cheryl Cole in London’s exclusive ‘The Box’ nightclub. At the time, the singer was going through her high profile issues with ex-husband Ashley Cole, and the song was written as an offer of escape
You can hear the single here:
Daniel David is an artist who continues to build a reputation amongst his peers and the music fans, particularly in London. Amongst those voicing their support for his work you will find the likes of Plan B, Professor Green and Paul Young, not to mention aforementioned band mate Labrinth.
It’s a growing reputation that stands him in excellent stead going forward, particularly if he continues to release high quality tracks with great production like ‘Me an U’.
Daniel is also an artist who takes seriously the development of young talent in the music industry, having started a label called Eagle Rush Global to help give younger people a chance in the industry as well as create in imprint for his own work.
It’s this kind of attitude and work ethic that is likely to see Daniel David to the top of his game.
This new single releases July 14th, but if you cant wait that long, sample the music video here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D3e4iU3Qds
Upcoming urban rapper, Scrilla, is releasing a new album under his own record label Scrills Monetary Records. Having been described as a “fantastic artist who is abstract in creativity” by Tom Simkins (BBC Introducing), it is no surprise that Scrilla is hotly tipped for success in the UK music scene this 2014.
New release, ‘Turn Me Up’, sees Scrilla showcase his refined song writing skills and musical arrangement to create an ideal club hit. The track embodies the whole vibe of the album, Bangers N Cash, which is filled with fun and upbeat, contemporary music. Produced by Elementree (Young Money, Young Capone, Cuban Linx), ‘Turn Me Up’ has a variety of Dubstep, dance and hip-hop influences to create a rhythmic fusion of chart beats worthy of acclaim.

Scrilla has played at various venues nationwide, gaining considerable media coverage from the likes of Capital FM and RAP City TV. However, his career highlights to date include a live performance at BBC introducing radio, playing to a 10,000 strong crowd at Gran Can Music Festival in Gran Canaria and of course, owning his own record label.
In order to keep his music fresh and unique, Scrilla likes to work with rising producers, engineers and collaborators who can bring innovative ideas and musical influences to keep the music new and exciting. This helps to avoid producing generic sounds that is hard to differentiate between artists and also pushes the boundaries of the urban genre to create something truly eclectic.
Scrilla’s love of music first developed in his early teenage years when his Mum paid for piano lessons, which ignited his desire to learn and produce music professionally. This progressed when he moved to Leicester forming friendships with fellow rappers who encouraged him to write his own material and master the craft.
The musical direction decided and perfected, Scrilla’s new album is a great example of how the talent he possesses has grown and tightened to produce something great.
Much anticipated 3 track release out through GHOSTNOTE Records, June 9th
Tapping into the recent boom in British funk music, Row Z are a Liverpool based five piece with a taste for moody blues. Their new EP, ‘Green Penny’ is due June 9th and is currently one of the most eagerly awaited releases in the world of new UK Blues.
Led by the incredible Richard James Smith, the band specialise in sprawling jazz spiced funk tracks, full of intricate rhythms and virtuoso musical performance throughout.
For a taste, check out the EP’s lead single/title track ‘Green Penny’ – complete with a raw sound reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXvo0OdIslY
Row Z first made a splash with Ska/Jazz single ‘Stalemate’ in 2006, released to universally good reviews and – improbably – a huge chart success in Germany.
Now though, this new material sees them hitting new heights with great crossover potential, pulling together their roots sensibilities with sound that is instantly accessible. It’s the kind of music that can (and has) turned small, impromptu gigs into full on dance parties, bringing in elements from breakdance to swing.
It comes as no surprise to learn that Richard James Smith comes with something of a reputation. After receiving Masterclasses from Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), Joan Armatrading, Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Yngwie Malmsteen and José Feliciano, Richard had the honour of being awarded his degree by Sir Paul McCartney; but this was just the start.
Since then, Richard has featured as a finalist in ‘Young Jazz Musician of the Year’ and ‘Acoustic Guitarist of the Year’, and featured on Oscar winner Jared Leto’s 30 Seconds To Mars track ‘Up in the Air’ (Remix). Fans include Jools Holland, who swapped numbers with Guitarist Richard after a performance for ITV.
However, Smith isn’t the only band member with pedigree. Drummer Jay Irving has toured with Tony Christie/The Christians, while Keyboard player John has toured with the Seahorses, John Squire, DJ Vadim, Cinematic Orchestra, and played and composed for Lily Allen hits ‘Smile’ and LDN. He also played on the acclaimed debut album from Corinne Bailey Rae.
Meanwhile, Alto sax player Alex Harris has performed for Richard Branson, Prince Charles and Kate Middleton, as well as numerous television shows, radio shows and short films including BBC’s Call the Midwife and BBC Radio London. He has also performed with Kevin Spacey at Ronnie Scott’s, London.
Row Z’s killer combination of skill and experience is what makes their music so brilliant and their EP so highly sought after. And when The Beatles’ first manager Allan Williams asks to book your band for parties after watching them at the Cavern Club, it’s clear you’re doing something right.

Bright young entrepreneur collaborates with some of the UK’s top up and coming stars
Following the success of previous track ‘Cheque Me’, featuring London MC Beluga Ice, ShoDem Records returns in May with a new, six track EP, which addition includes bonus mixes from ShoDem Ent DJ Kapz.
The brainchild and versatile music maker ‘Sose’ (aka Sammy Sose), has further developed ShoDem Records creating an innovative project designed to work with a variety of UK artists and deliver original, raw and exciting UK talent and music under SMG. And for this EP he has gathered together three talented artists who he is looking to develop in their respective music careers.
The lead track and EP opener ‘My Time’ (video in the making) is a rhythmic hip-hop track featuring the voice of female vocalist and rapper Honey the first Lady of ShoDem SMG. Built on a foundation of effective looped electronic sounds, the lyrics portray an artist grabbing opportunity with both hands striving toward the music career that lays ahead. Honey is unlike many other female Mc’s feminine in her ways she keeps her lyrics relevant and relatable. You can hear the track here: https://soundcloud.com/shodement-1/shodem-records-presents-shodem
After opening the EP, Honey also goes on to appear on two more tracks – ‘Welcome2the Floor’ and ‘Hold You Down’. A proud artist on the rise, the ShoDem EP represents Honey’s first, confident steps into the music industry.
Two more tracks on the EP, ‘More Girls More Cars More Weed’ and ‘Drinks on Me’ feature another up and coming talent in Steffy Dizzle. Having started rapping at the age of 18, Steffy was recently contacted by producers for TV series The Voice, turning them down to build his own career. Already an experienced performer, his talents also saw him appear on TV show Limelight UK, as well as picking up plaudits from the radio community.
Last but not least, the final track on the album is the aforementioned track ‘Cheque Me’, featuring Beluga Ice. With an extremely catchy hook and relatable lyrics – depicting a talented man who could have it all, as long as he stops being lazy and works for it – the track turned plenty of heads on its original release earlier this year.
You can still catch the ‘Cheque Me’ video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0fiRM8EOg4
ShoDem Ent are also coming to a club near you, as their signing of DJ Kapz blesses the dance floors of West London from Barracuda Ealing to The Slug and Lettuce Uxbridge to name but a couple of his home hubs. Bashment to House to Commercial Chart, DJ Kapz is versatile in his approach and plays personally to his audience. DJ Kapz is ready to ShoDem how it’s done…
With plenty of collaborators and very strong tracks, ShoDem Records have put together an EP to be proud of. ‘ShoDem Records Presents…ShoDem’ will be available from May 5th.

2nd album to be released through PIPEANDGUN Recorders
Created by cherry picking the ten best tracks from a collection of almost 100 recordings, the new album Hummingbird from Albanian indie folk pop artist will be released by PIPEANDGUN Recorders this Summer. Listen to the Hummingbird single here: https://soundcloud.com/pipeandgun/armand-margjeka-hummingbird-1?in=pipeandgun/sets/armand-margjeka-hummingbird/s-mOvtH
Produced by Margjeka with the aid of a team including three time Grammy award winner Darrell Thorp (Radiohead, Beck, Outkast, Gnarls Barkley), Chris Steffen (Stereophonics, Ben Harper) and Eric Masse (Escondido, Robert Ellis), the collection marks a real step forward for Margjeka – the result of his most creative and mature recording sessions yet.
Brought up with a love for Western rock’n’roll and inspired by pop legends Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis to 1990’s MTV Europe, Armand Margjeka’s musical influences were drip fed during his formative years as Western music slowly made its way into a country still reeling from the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Margjeka released his debut solo album Margo Margo in 2011. “I want to do music without any preconceived parameters. I like to combine unexpected elements in my music. Margo Margo is completely honest and shows the directions I want to pursue in my song writing and playing.”
Armand Margjeka’s sophomore release Hummingbird represents a series of creative recording sessions and marks a new high for this promising indie songwriter.
